SDL Group was formed in 1977 as SDL Trophies, primarily to distribute Sports Trophies to Retail establishments in the UK and Europe.The business evolved from a partnership to being wholly owned by the Lord family in 1990. Two generations of the family currently operate the business.The core business of sports awards has been added to over the past 15 years through acquisition and diversification.

The company have been significant contributors to the development of the UK Awards Industry over the past thirty years and as such hold a mature market share.1998 saw the commencement of  Incentives-Uk, a business to business operation marketing Promotional and Incentives products. The Motor and Brewing industries represent a significant percentage of the I-Uk activity.

In 2002 the company became UK distributors for the Sports Brand Stuart Surridge ( SS). The brand is one of the oldest sports brands in the world becoming a recognised name through activities in Cricket, Football and Hockey.In 2005 SDL were able to purchase the Surridge Brand and accelerate the reintroduction of the name in Professional and Amateur circles.The 2008 season sees the Brand being used by 50% of the 18 First Class Cricket Counties and a number of Scottish and English Pro Football clubs.
